It's a funny thing seeing what happens when you kind of abandon your Deviant Art account. The abandonment goes both ways on this site. But it's a price you pay when you take time off to nurse your faltering creativity.
I know I've mentioned in the past that I wasn't on here much, and that art block sucks, but I don't think I ever really went into detail on the root of the problem. I've deduced over the past few years that it was definitely my computer. The thing was built back in '08(ish) and I trusted a friend to help me pick the parts out. Mistake. I let him talk me into less storage space and ram, and all around was completely naive about the entire thing. Eventually through the years, the problem came to a head. I was able to use Photoshop but if my files were too large it would take minutes to save them if my computer didn't boot me from the program completely. My computer loved random restarts, and the horrid feared Blue Screen of Death. It simply was not built for what I needed, and I struggled through the years to deal with it. It hit me hard in the creativity, and I began to fear using my computer at all. Also, my computer screen was that lcd type that you had to be perfectly level to see the true colors and lighting. A lot of my art, if not all of it, came out too dark or too saturated and panic ensued after completing each piece. I lost trust in technology completely. And being an aspiring digital artist, that ruined my whole outlook.
So now, as of 3 days ago, I officially have a new computer! Who would have thought that something as simple as getting the right computer would be such a big deal? I'm not out of the woods yet however, because I still have to retrain a lot of what I know about digital art, and I have a lot of catching up to do. But I did things right this time around and I got a lot of input on my computer build instead of trusting just one person.
I recommend, if anyone is thinking of making their own computer, get lots of feedback. Run a build list over a few different people. What I did specifically, I used the Subreddit /r/buildapcforme via Reddit, then ran the list I chose over with my brother. I then purchased all of the parts individually and had a friend help me build it. Also, computer screens matter. I got a new one (kept the old shit one as a secondary monitor for a dual setup) and the new one is LED, which makes the colors and lighting the same no matter which way you're looking at the screen. Oh, and lots of damn storage space. Dedicated memory, the whole shabang.
If anyone's still reading at this point, I have some photos I could share. Since I let my subscription lapse on this site, you'll have to settle with a link to the photos: imgur.com/a/poLiE
So, I'll be back! Slowly but surely, art will be posted here again. I have lots of projects in mind!
